Hello all it's Mimi checking in! I know its been a very long time, almost a year since my last post. But I'm back and for those who don't know I come from Jamaican heritage. So what better way to come back than a post about a fellow Jamaican!

Our friend and Jamaican National hero, Usain Bolt was seen on Wednesday partying with plenty of the ladies. He was drinking from a bong and having a great time. Can't say we blame him! Local NFL star rushed to hospital after being stabbed!

When I saw that headline i just assumed he had gotten robbed. But that was not the case...
Apparently Brandon Marshall, a receiver for the Miami Dolphins was stabbed by his wife Michi Nagomi-Marshall last night. The newly-weds had conflicting stories about what occurred. He told police that he fell on a vase while his wife said that she had stabbed him but in self defense. (She is currently in custody at the Broward County jail on a $75,000 bond.)
But the real "tea" is that Brandon has had domestic issues in the past with his former girlfriend and even got suspended for the remainder of the season for “violating the league’s personal conduct policy”. This story is just sad on all accounts! I guess looks can be deceiving! The seem so happy together in their wedding picture. With that said domestic violence is NEVER okay, please seek help if you are in an abusive relationship before someone ends up hurt, in jail or even dead.

Holdin Her Own

"Toya: A Family Affair" is a new show starring one half of BET's hit show "Tiny and Toya". For those of you who have been living under a rock, Antonia Carter AKA Toya is the ex-wife of famous rapper Dwayne Carter AKA Lil Wayne. The rumor was that T.I. (another well known rapper), Tiny's man - didn't want his family featured on the show (Tiny and Toya) anymore, so BET came up with a spinoff show instead.

I love Toya, she is a beautiful girl who seems to have her head on straight. The show started last Tuesday and it did not disappoint. Not only is it entertaining but it is heartwarming too! I was glad to see her and all her siblings together in New Orleans to see their mother off to rehab after being an addict for over 20 years. Not only that but Toya is in love with her boyfriend of 1 year MempHitz. I'm so happy for her, after all she has been through she deserves LOVE. Toya is handling her business! Keep up the good work girl....I'm watching (along with 1.5 million other viewers)! Check out the show every Tuesday at 10pm on BET.

Entree vs. Side (No you don't need both to have a "complete" meal!)

Entree v. side? No this is not a food blog...lol. Over the last couple weeks there has been some talk about relationships and who has things better. First there is the "main" or "wifey" or the woman who is considered to be in a validated relationship with the man.What is a validated relationship? People know that person to be your significant other, they attend family functions with you, you have their picture on our desk or cubicle at work etc. The "side" or "jumpoff" is the other woman in your life that you spend time with but your family has never met them and your overall relationship is a secret.

It is said that the side girl has it better than the main girl because she has to deal with less heartache. I'm on the fence with that because yes the side doesn't have to worry about where her "man" is. But it has to be difficult to know your "man" is going home to someone else or that on holidays he will not be with you. If he dies tomorrow no one will call you. It takes a strong woman to deal with that. I feel like the side knows too much. The wife is oblivious most of the time and has no idea what is going on. If her and the side were in the same place the side can pick her out right away while the wife just sees her as another complete stranger. Even with all the perks of being wifey being on the side seems "more fun" - the man spends more time with you and sometimes more money too! I wish things were different but they aren't.

I'm at a point in my life where i cannot and will not be the woman on the side - at least not knowingly. I want my own man complete with all the heartache and pain that comes with being in love. Whenever I think about this subject I remember a line in one of Fabolous' songs where says "stick with your entree and get over your side". So that is my advise for men. I understand its like 8 to 10 women for every one man but try to think about your sisters, daughters and mothers, etc. when you are out there playing the field. There are way too many single ladies that are also single mothers because men want to have their cake and eat it too. This problem is a huge in "our" community. So to all the men who take care of their women and are overall good men.....KUDOS YOU ARE A DYING BREED!!!

Jumping the Broom in Theatres May 6, 2011.

This movie stars Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Laz Alonzo, Mike Epps, Meagan Good, Tasha Smith, Loretta Devine and others, The movie is about a wedding that brings 2 families from different walks of life together. The groom's family (The Taylors) are from a modest background while the bride's family (The Watsons) are more affulent. There is some conflict because the Taylors feel the Watsons think they are better than them and it seems that the groom had kept the families from meeting before the wedding which makes things alot more awkward. From seeing the trailer, I can tell that this movie is going to be hilarious! Definitely a must see!

Life After Loss

So Mashonda is covering the King Magazine April/May issue. From the waist up she looks spectacular! The bottom half looks a bit photo shopped to me. But overall she looks great. She was in NYC celebrating her cover in this beautiful sequins dress with gold pumps. After all the drama with her and Swizz Beatz its great to see her doing her thing. I respect a woman who stays on her grind. Hopefully all this publicity will help her back into the spotlight as "Mashonda" the artist/businesswoman and not just a producer's ex-wife. Shout out to her and her team because she stays on point, he is a very attractive woman!

Dear Amber

I'm sure we have all heard about Amber Rose aka Amber Mitchell by now. But exactly who is she? The 27 year old vixen has been linked to Reggie Bush, Amare Stoudemire, Kanye West and now Wiz Khalifa. I never heard of the woman until Kanye started bringing her everywhere he went. She is definitely a show stopper and everyone wanted to know who she was. So that is how she came into the spotlight....by being Kanye's arm piece/girlfriend. With all that said, I gotta give it to the girl! *round of applause* Not only is she beautiful but it seems she has something going on upstairs too. Not only is she a pretty face with a great body- she is a brand. She is signed with prestigious Ford Models and has made various cameos in the music videos and reality shows. I believe she even has as eyewear line in the works. I never really thought very much of her until this past week, when Wiz Khalifa is all over MTV, BET and the radio talking about his relationship with her. He even got "Amb" tattooed on his hand! How is it that this model has been in so many "high profile" relationships while everyday girls out here are struggling just to find 1 decent man? Amber please tell us what it is that you do! What are you doing to these men? And can you teach me?...oops I meant us! (lol)

I'm going to put together a round table traveling seminar for ladies. Some people I would have as "keynote" speakers? Amber Rose, Karrine Steffans and Evelyn Lozada to start. I know I know....They are questionable individuals but women can learn a lot from them because they are obiviously doing "SOMETHING" right! Who's coming???

Love & Relationships 1

Today's post is something that just popped into my head this morning. It is based on my own relationships over the years plus those of my friends, family and complete strangers around me. Try to stay with me....I might go all over the place. But I think this is something everyone can get something from.



Relationships are a confusing and sometimes frustrating part of life. There are ups & downs, twists & turns, happiness, sadness and a million other feelings wrapped up in one. When you consciously make a decision to be in a monogamous relationship you go in will all the best intentions. But things happen, people make mistakes and with some hard work it may actually work. My question is how hard should you work in a relationship? How hard should you fight for the person you love? I realize more and more as I grow older that advice from people is a no no. Yes I said it! The same people who say "leave him/her" or "I would kick him/her out" in response to a "hurdle" in your relationship are the same people who do the exact opposite in their relationship. People like to put on a front and act "harder" than they really are to save face. You know your relationship better than anyone- you should be the one making the decision ultimately about what happens in it. Here are some sample relationship issues....which one are you in?



Personally I don't believe that cheating is a absolute deal breaker in a relationship, don't get me wrong- it sucks to get cheated on but like I said before people make mistakes. It is up to you and your significant other to decide whether or not you can go past it. If he/she is a habitual cheater then chances are you need to bounce. If this is the first occurrence and your mate is remorseful and you feel you are strong enough to forgive and move past it (without throwing it in his/her face every time you have an argument) then by all means save your relationship. With that said I don't believe too much hard work should go into a relationship that you know is not going anywhere. If you are married, do all you can to keep your union together- but know when to give up. Both people have to want the same result, you can't force someone to be with you. Last week I saw a white car with the word "Cheater" written in red spray paint across the driver & rear passenger side doors of the vehicle. Why do that? Makes absolutely no sense to me. Especially if you know you aren't going anywhere and you may be with him next week.Or you met him with someone and he "cheated" with you. Not to mention that it is a childish thing to do. Move on if you are so hurt! I feel like only people who have nothing do things like that. I wouldn't do it because I wouldn't want anyone doing that to my car! (But that's just me).



Then there is the chicks on the side! Yes this is for the ladies. I know its hard out here and their aren't many "quality" men available. But lowering yourself to the "jump-off/chick on the side" to hold on to something that is not yours is pathetic. There are 2 types in this category: "on the come up chicks" and "I can steal him away chicks". On the come up chicks are just trying to get what they can get and get out. They know the man is married/in a relationship and have no intentions of breaking up that "happy" home (I use the term happy loosely). They are perfectly content with their roles. Then there is the I can steal him away girls that want to be the wife/girlfriend and will do any and everything to cause drama and problems in the relationship so that they can have the man. Sad thing here is eventually it will happen to her - its a never ending cycle. Both situations are sad and I don't knock anyone's hustle, but Karma is a BITCH. (TRUST ME) With that said there are instances where these jump-offs become the "main" and have productive relationships/marriages but the statistics on that are slim. Good luck ladies!

Another facet of relationships is stringing along. DON'T DO IT! If you don't want them, leave them alone. Don't just hang on because you don't want anyone else to have them while you decide when you will be ready to be in a committed relationship. It is unfair to the other person and just plain selfish. Let is go if it comes back it is meant to be!



Users! I hate users. When you had everything and your life was great that person was the furthest from your mind. But when you fall on your face and need help they are the love of your life. (At least you pretend its that way, in front of their face) Only low lives do this. So many women look the other way in this kind of relationship. They are just happy to have a man. Trust me I know it sucks to be single but don't lower your self esteem and settle for any ol' man to fill the empty space on the other side of the bed.



I heard this on a Program Steve Harvey was on. He said you got to get rid of the "baggage" in your life in order to receive your blessings. You cant have a no good, lazy man/woman in your home while you are praying to God every night for your true love! He/she will never come because you have no room for them. Steve used an old car he had in his garage as an example. He had that car on blocks in the garage while dreaming of a "newer" car but when he got rid of the car on blocks and cleaned out the garage he received his blessing and had a working vehicle parked in the garage soon after. Instead of dreaming about it he made steps to get what he wanted.

Reality Woes

Is it just me or is television a sure way to make you feel bad about your financial situation? Whether it’s the Real Housewives of Orange County or Million Dollar Listing, money is all over the tube. I know everyone is feeling the pinch of the downturn in the economy but everyone is not hit in the same way. If you were worth $500 three years ago and are worth -$500 today you cannot compare that to being worth $50 million and now down to $30 million. It just doesn’t make sense. I love seeing into the lives of the “upper crust” of society but damn if it doesn’t make me wonder why I was born on this side of the tracks! Going to school to better yourself isn’t really helping nowadays either. There are people with masters degrees or higher who are unemployed. Gas is waaaay up, home values are waaaay down and the price of cotton is even being affected. Not only that but we are at war and people are losing their lives every day. It’s a sad time and it looks like there is no way up and out of this mess. What do I suggest? STAY ON YOUR GRIND! Don’t give up keep riding till the wheels fall off, it will pay off. And use the television for inspiration not desperation, and most valuable of all….Don‘t compare. Comparison will land you in Belleview or jumping off your local bridge! Lol (I love seeing rich people acting a fool on National television, it’s the best thing since sliced bread – SO Enjoy!)

Album Alarm

Chris Brown’s new album F.A.M.E is dropping on Tuesday, March 22^nd. Mr. Breezy was in NYC this weekend promoting the album and has high hopes for it to sell a million copies in the first week. I’m definitely TEAM BREEZY so I’m pulling for him to do well. I say he will do 2 million copies! Come on people support Chris. He has been through a lot and deserves to come off with a big win on this album. Personally I don’t understand how his ex (you know who) is still riding her 15 minutes of fame. She is not the best singer but her songs are decent. As an artist she is weak but I will give her props when it comes to her style. Enough about her! I hear this album will be rocking a lot of Ladies worlds with its “ultra adult” content, so I cannot wait. That No BS song has me wanting more, I will be at Best Buy this week to get my explicit copy. Sorry Wal-Mart, I love you dearly but I need all the sexually charged, foul mouthed crooning that I can get with this one. Don’t meet me there beat me there!

Miami Melee (may-lay)

Last night's season finale of Basketball wives was a blockbuster! Suzie visited Los Angeles and when out to eat with Gloria and 2 other NBA wives. Gloria suggested Suzie move out there to get away from Miami and Shaunie & her "wolf pack". Royce is back and all beef with Evelyn is squashed....FOR NOW. Evelyn visited Chad OchoCinco in Cincinnati and "sealed the deal" with him on national television - SMH! Shaunie returned to L.A. after spending the summer in Miami and had dinner with friends to catch-up. Jennifer is still married and still unhappy but is trying to move on and do things for herself. She launched her lip gloss line "Lucid" and had a dinner party to celebrate and show off the packaging for her products. Her and Evelyn seem to not be seeing eye to eye lately. Jen doesn't like Chad for Evelyn or any other athlete for that matter. And Ev doesn't understand why her BFF never mentioned that she has been working on her lip gloss line. I have a feeling this friendship will be breaking down in the coming season. Tami got emotional in this episode and had nice things to say about all the women. But it caused a deep secret to arise. Turns out Evelyn had a 6 month relationship with Tami's ex-husband back in 1999- while Tami and Kenny were still married! Drinks, alcohol and heated discussion ensued and blows were exchanged. Now that's what I call entertainment!

Even though I think Evelyn was foul for not telling Tami sooner, I kind of understand her dilemma. How do you tell someone that you slept with their husband? Also Tami overreacted when she put her hands on Ev. A lady should never exchange blows unless she is fighting for her life. Especially not on national TV about a man that cheated on you several times with many different people. She just comes off as plain crazy! Yes I understand you were upset and Evelyn didn't make things any better with her "matter of fact" explanation and outright rudeness but you have to hold yourself to a higher standard sometimes. These women are a hot mess. With that said.....I CANT WAIT FOR NEXT SEASON!!!!

Dunkin' Don't

Anyone that knows me knows that I love to eat. (Can't cook) but I definitely can eat and I love to eat out at many different restaurants ranging from fast food to dine in. So on Wednesday I went to Dunkin Donuts because I had received some coupons in the mail over the weekend. On the flyer that had the coupons there was a huge picture of a new breakfast sandwich called the "Big N' Toasty". It looked delicious so I said what the heck! www.dunkindonuts.com had this to say about the new sandwich: "Start your big day with 2 fried eggs, 4 slices of cherrywood smoked bacon and american cheese on thick Texas Toast. Pair it with our oven-toasted hash browns and a hot coffee for a hearty, home-style breakfast that will keep you running."


People this sandwich is a big DON'T! Don't eat it, don't even feed it to your dog! The only running I wanted to do after tasting this sandwich was to the restroom. The bread was waaay too greasy or maybe it was the fried eggs, cheese and bacon that soaked their grease into the bread. Either way I felt sick to my stomach. I am no health nut, but even this sandwich was too much for me. I tried to eat it because I was starving but I was only able to suffer down less than half before tossing it in the trash. Please Dunkin Donuts get rid of this sandwich not only is it a clogged artery waiting to happen but its just plain GROSS!

What's your "Number"? (This one is for the Ladies)

I was recently having a conversation with a girlfriend of mine and she asked whether I still count the number of partners I have had or is that something you do when you're young? That was a good question which fueled several minutes of in depth conversation. We all know of the double standard: Men can have a million partners and it is praised by the masses.....Women on the other hand, its a different story. We are considered slutty, "loose" and/or promiscuous. Because of that many of us have had to adapt in order to survive in this "Man's World". My friend and I decided that unless you are a very good girl, newbie to sex or a prude, you have lied about the "number" of partners you have had. (If you don't agree, just remember this is my OPINION.) Okay maybe "lied" is too strong and "omitted the truth" might work better, either one works just fine for me. In any case we spoke about several ways of "calculating" your Number.

Here is what we came up with:


1. If you are under 18 you should still be able to name/tabulate how many with no problems.

2. Over 18?

- You can round off your "actual" number. (if you remember it...lol)

- Come up with what you think is an "acceptable" amount for your age range and stick to that number for a while.

- Start with the age you lost your "innocence" and add 2 partners for each year since then that you were single.

- Start with your "actual" number and subtract all of the following: 1 night stands, waste of times, bad performers and wish you never mets.

- Use your "actual" number and embrace it like Samantha from Sex and the city.

An addition to Bravo's "The Real Housewives of..." empire. THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF MIAMI. Yeaaaa, I'm so excited! Finally our city is part of one of my favorite reality shows. I just hope they do the city justice and make all of us proud. I love Orange County, Beverly Hills, Atlanta, New York and even New Jersey housewives but I definitely have a soft spot for my "home team". The series is set to premiere on Tuesday, February 22nd at 10pm.

The series will be based on the lives of 6 Miami ladies:

- Larsa Pippen, wife of Ex-NBA baller Scottie Pippen.
- Lea Black, wife of top Defense Attorney Roy Black.
- Marysol Patton, divorced owner of premiere PR firm The Patton Group.

February Already?

So we are six days into a new month, seems like just yesterday was New Years. February is a short month, 28 days, but it packs a punch. What's so special about February? Well, today is Super Bowl Sunday, for American football fans it's a very big day! This year we have the Pittsburgh Steelers competing against the Green Bay Packers. The commercials are supposed to be bigger and better than years past, everyone looks forward to the annual Super Bowl parties, who sings the national anthem and the pre-show and half-time performances.
More importantly this is "Black History Month", a time to reflect on the past in order to really appreciate the freedoms we have today. When I think about all the historic icons like Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey, Sojourner Truth and Jackie Robinson (just to name a few), I am proud of my people - where we came from and where we are today.
We also celebrate 2 major holidays Valentine's Day on the 14th and President's Day on the 21st, February is a busy month. (And for those of you that think tax season is also a holiday.....I am with you! Everyone who actually receives a return agrees.)
So in summary please take the time this month to learn about your past and enjoy your present!

I first heard this young artist last week on the Rickey Smiley Morning show on WEDR 99Jamz. They played a remix of Kanye West's song "Flashing Lights" that featured Durand AKA alcoholharmony. I really enjoyed his spin on a now "old" song. His voice is different that any R&B singer on the radio now. He is funky and soulful. After googling him I found his channel on Youtube and watched a few videos. I must say I am pleasantly surprised! He is truly a talented singer. When asked about his genre of music he only claims "freestyle soul" and states that he never wants to be put in the box of being one particular kind of singer/artist. He has 3 albums online and available for purchase. Support this up and coming artist, he is sure to make waves!

Welcome to Miami Russell!

Russell Simmons will be in Miami tomorrow promoting his new book, "Super Rich: A Guide to Having it All". Mr. Simmons, born October 4, 1957, is a well respected business man who is most known for Def Jam Records, but is also the ex-husband of Kimora Lee Simmons and the brother of famous rapper turned minister, Joseph "Run" Simmons. He is the brains behind the "Rush" card, Phat Farm, Argyleculture & American Classics clothing lines as well as www.globalgrind.com. He has added author to his long list of accomplishments over the last few years, this will be his 3rd book. He released "Life and Def: Sex, Drugs, Money + God" in 2002 and "Do You! 12 Law to Access the Power in you to Achieve Happiness and Success" in 2008. The Mogul, who is called the "CEO of Hip-Hop" will be at the Books & Books location in Coral Gables this Wednesday at 8pm. I plan on getting a copy of this book. Who doesn't want to be "super rich"? I know I wouldn't mind!

New Year, New Budget!

With a new year comes a new list of resolutions on how "you" are going to make this year better than the last. One of my goals is to manage my finances better. So I've enlisted the help of Excel, coupons and Mint to help me with my task. How is Excel going to help me? Glad you asked. Excel is perfect for budgeting because you can keep track of your spending fairly easily with the help of a few formulas. For others who aren't so great with formulas - Excel also offers several different budgeting templates - no hard work required, just open and plug in your financial stats. Coupons are coupons, pretty straightforward just clip and use at your leisure.

And my final helper is Mint, personal finance software. Mint is "the best free way to manage your money" (www.mint.com) the site allows you to put all your accounts in one place SAFELY. It automatically categorizes your spending making budgeting a breeze. The site also offers alerts on your accounts and helpful graphs to further drive home your spending habits. It can also keep track of budgets and/or saving goals that you have set for yourself. My year is already off to a better start than years past. Everyone knows the first step in changing a habit is understanding your habit now, that way you can see where you are coming from and plan where you want to go. Coupon Crazy!

Since the downturn in the economy many Americans have had to change the way they do many things including shopping. Whether it's shopping for clothes, shoes or even groceries - we have all tried to make a change for the better. One growing and already extremely popular trend is coupon clipping. You might be thinking- coupon clipping? Isn't that for old ladies? Not so at all! Coupon clipping is one of the easiest ways to save money without spending anything. You can get coupons for a multitude of products from your local Sunday paper or from printing online, FREE. Many retailers have a whole portion of their site dedicated to saving money. Target.com and coupons.com are two of my favorite sites to print coupons.

There is a television show "Extreme Couponing" on TLC and countless websites/blogs like thekrazycouponlady.com that cater to the avid and beginner couponer. The coupon lady's website is very informational she list deals and steals and has a large number of followers that comment to share stories of how they saved money on her site regularly. I just recently started couponing and it is definitely addicting, saving money is the ultimate high! I even introduced a co-worker to it and she has even surpassed me in the coupon craziness.
